Links & Limits
Link limits depend on your account type:
- Guest: 10 links. These are deactivated after 7 days since creation and then permanently deleted after 30 days, including all statistics, unless you create a free account.
- Free (Registered): 50 links. These will be automatically deactivated after 60 days of inactivity (no clicks).
- Pro: 500+ links. Pro links never expire automatically unless you manually set a specific expiration date. Links limit can be additionally increased by purchasing extra link packages on the Pricing page.
Yes! Pro users can use the link tagging system to organize their links. You can create custom tags with vibrant colors and names, and then use them to filter your links. Tagging is managed directly through the "Filter by tags" selector on your Links page or when adding/editing a link.
Link tagging is a Pro-only feature with the following limits:
- Account limit: 30 unique tags.
- Link limit: Each individual link can have up to 5 tags assigned simultaneously.
Pro users can purchase additional link quotas. You can find the "Increase links limit" option on the Pricing page.
When a link expires, it is simply deactivated. It remains in your dashboard and all of its statistics are still accessible, but visitors will see a 404 page when trying to access it. You can find these links by using the "Expired links" filter on the links page. Pro users can reactivate the link by toggling the "Active" switch. Users without a Pro subscription cannot reactivate the link and must remove it and create a new one with the same target link. Registered users receive an email notification when their links are automatically deactivated. You can toggle these notifications on or off in your Account Settings under the "Notifications" section.
This status appears if your Pro subscription has expired or if the custom domain associated with the link was deleted. You can restore the link by clicking the "Fix domain" button in your link management to switch back to the default domain (staging.short.ovh).
We maintain detailed statistics and click history for 365 days. This history is preserved even when your Pro subscription ends or if you are currently on a free plan and decide to upgrade to Pro.
Yes — Pro users with a custom branded domain can set a custom fallback URL. When someone visits a broken or inactive short link on your domain, they will be redirected to your chosen link (e.g., your website homepage) instead of a generic 404 page. This option is available in your branded domains settings.
Changing the short code of an existing link is currently not supported. You can, however, create a new link with a custom code if you have a Pro subscription. Pro users can also edit the target link of an existing link without changing its code.
Yes! You can reset statistics in two ways:
- Single link: Use the reset icon in the link actions on your Links page.
- All links at once: Use the "Reset all statistics" option in the "Danger Zone" section of your Account Settings.
As an additional helper feature for Pro users, we periodically monitor the status of your destination links to help identify potential issues. Please note that this is not a real-time uptime monitoring service, so there may be a delay in detecting or clearing error statuses. A link is flagged if:
- The destination link returns a 404 (Not Found) or 410 (Gone) status.
- The destination server is experiencing a 5xx (Server Error).
- The request fails completely due to a network or DNS issue.
We do not flag links as broken for 401 (Unauthorized) or 403 (Forbidden) responses, as these often belong to protected resources that are still technically functioning. We also ignore 429 (Too Many Requests) to avoid false positives from rate-limited automated checks.
Pro & Billing
If your Pro subscription ends, links using custom domains will become invalid and deactivated. All links which exceed the free plan limits will be automatically deactivated, starting from the most recently created links. Your statistics history is preserved and will be fully available again once you renew. Your branded domains will remain added until you manually remove them using the Domains page.
They are kept forever, but the links over the free plan limit are automatically disabled. The increased limit (which includes purchased extra links) is reactivated when Pro is purchased again.
If you delete a branded domain, all links using that domain will immediately become invalid. You can fix the affected links by clicking the "Fix domain" button on each link on the Links page to switch it back to the default domain (staging.short.ovh) or, if you are a Pro user, you can bulk-edit the domain to a working one for multiple links at once.
Pro users can manage or cancel their subscription through our billing portal, accessible via the Pricing page by clicking "Manage Subscription". Cancelling your subscription will keep it active until the end of the billing period.
While we don't have a dedicated "Pro trial", you can use our Free plan (up to 50 links) indefinitely to explore the core features of Short.ovh. If you really wish to try the Pro features, you can purchase a Pro plan for a single month and cancel it right away.
Pro plan analytics include a comprehensive breakdown of your link performance:
- Total clicks over time — a chart showing click trends
- Country & Region — geographic origin of clicks
- Referrer — where visitors came from (social, direct, etc.)
- Bots vs Real Users — identifies automated traffic
- Operating System — Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, etc.
- Browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.
- Language — browser language preference of visitors
- Device Type — desktop, mobile, or tablet
Detailed analytics are kept for 365 days. The total lifetime click count is available forever unless manually reset by you.
The Publish Statistics feature (Pro only) lets you generate a public shareable link to your selected link's analytics dashboard. Anyone with that link can view your shared link's stats — no account required. This is useful for sharing performance reports with clients or teammates without giving them access to your account.
Account & Security
You can completely delete your account and all associated data from the "Danger Zone" section in your Account Settings. Please remember that this action is irreversible and it will also delete all your links and their statistics, as well as any branded domains you have added.
Yes, we take security seriously. In addition to offering two-factor authentication (2FA) for all registered accounts, we perform regular data backups, and ensure that your private links and analytics are accessible only to you.
Yes! You can link your account to other platforms (like Google) at any time. Simply go to your Account Settings and use the "Linked Accounts" section to connect your preferred provider. This allows you to use multiple login methods for the same account.
We offer support channels depending on your plan:
- Free (Registered) users: Support via the contact form.
- Pro users: Priority support via the contact form and live chat directly.
